This 1960s ranch home was my own personal project—one that marked the beginning of my journey as a builder. When I purchased it, I decided to take on the renovation myself, transforming it into a space that reflected my vision. This was a rite of passage for me as a woman in the field of design and construction.

The original layout divided the home into separate living, dining, and kitchen spaces, all quite small. My goal was to open up these areas and create a larger, more cohesive kitchen that wrapped around the dining table.

After relocating the washer and dryer into the kitchen, and moving the water heater into the crawl space, this freed up the old laundry room to be transformed into an office.

This home became a true labor of love—a hands-on learning experience for everything from reframing the structure and adding footings to building custom cabinets and pouring concrete countertops. Renovating my own home was incredibly empowering, and the lessons I learned during this process continue to shape my approach to design and building.
